VIDEO-ESSAYS at Støberiet

VIDEO-ESSAYS at Støberiet took place 15.8.2023

The video essay is a genre of video content that, like a written essay, promotes an argument—preferably by circling around a topic and thereby viewing it from different angles.
The dogma of the evening was that all screened videos contained documentary elements and where shorter than half an hour.

The video-essays that was screened, is made by Maiken Stæhr, M.B. Pedersen, Anne-Kristine Selvejer and Clara Danmark.

In the video, Ø, Maiken Stæhr tries to create a portrait of an enveloping chaos filled with shame, hope, fear, contempt, ignorance, finances, hunger, status and expectations, which can be part of the experience of buying a tomato in the supermarket.

In The Saga of the Jelling Stone Copy, By M. B. Pedersen, a narrator examines 9 copies of Harald Bluetooth’s Jellingstone, which is scattered around the world and seen from a different perspective.

How to cycle in CPH, by Anne-Kristine Selvejer, is a series of short instructional videos about cycling in Copenhagen.

In Athens Notes, by Clara Denmark, a story is told about a subject that is trying to dissolve into the streets. The subject longs to connect with the city and to get in touch with the soul of Athens – which perhaps is Pallas Athene herself?
With a lonely and ghostly atmosphere, the viewer is led through streets empty of people, inhabited by cats – Cats become actors who carry out the script.
